Massage and Me
I have always had an innate need in me to help people feel better and have been described as an empath - "One who is able to understand the experiences and feelings of others outside of one’s own perspective - actually sensing and feeling emotions as if they are part of one’s own experience".

Through my own life experiences I know how important it is to be heard and feel supported, to take some time out from a hectic life and just be looked after and pampered for a while.

Having always had an interest in complementary therapy I decided a few years ago to learn more about it. I enrolled in a professional massage course to earn my diploma and quickly learned there was more to massage than I'd ever realised; I was astounded at the multiple benefits of massage therapy. There isn't one part of the body, or a system of the body, that doesn't benefit from this practise.

Now I am qualified, but this is only the start of my journey...

“Everyone I treat will leave feeling more relaxed, more invigorated, more cared for and more special than when they arrived.”
The physical benefits of massage
Massage can be an effective way to physically help relieve pain, stiffness and discomfort. The body can be locked into a routine that limits a person’s range of motion, be it through bad posture, sitting at a desk all day, poor alignment etc. Massage can be used to stretch and manipulate these muscles to increase their range of motion.

Massage also improves circulation to muscles. Restoring the proper function of muscles helps to open up the blood vessels and increases blood flow and lymph drainage.
Massage can help break down scar tissue after trauma and can also relax tight muscles that could otherwise compress nerves that pass over them; causing inflammation and pain.

The psychological benefits of massage
Massage can reduce feelings of stress, relieve anxious feelings and elevate mood. It's thought that emotions are often stored in the muscular structures of the body. When the body relaxes it sends signals to the brain to release positive chemicals, thus increasing the well-being of both body and mind.

Disturbed sleep patterns can also benefit from the relaxing effects of massage. Reducing stress and having a general feeling of well being can greatly influence a better night’s sleep by eliminating the feelings that may keep one awake.
A relaxed body is essential for a relaxed mind.
Those having received a relaxing or energising massage may find their concentration and focus improves significantly.

There may be an increase in energy levels felt following a massage due to unblocking certain energy channels and by practitioners who are able to tap into, and give, a truly holistic experience.
